Internet Connection Checking

On this page series of tests are performed to be sure that everything is right with network.

If there are no problems detected, next page will be switched automatically. Otherwise, program will stop here. Failed tests are marked with a red cross and Report button appears in the bottom of the page. Click Report to get more details about what has happened.

Here is a list of tests, which are performed on this page:

1. Network Adapter Test
SySpeed searches for the Network Adapter or Modem, which routes the network traffic, gets its IP address and pings with it. Test fails if no one Adapter can be found or ping failed.

2. Default Router Test
Default gateway is discovered and pinged. Test fails if no default gateway can be found or ping failed.

3. DNS Test
SySpeed tries to resolve some well-known Internet addresses to IP addresses using Domain Name System (DNS). Test fails if no one address can be resolved. It could mean, that no one DNS is registered in the system, or DNS server cannot be reached.

4. Ping Test
Ping with the one of the IP addresses, resolved with DNS in the previous step. Test fails if no one of the IP addresses is pingable. The possible reason of a failure is that Internet connection is broken. Other possible reason is a firewall, which could be installed on your network. Firewall could be configured to block ICMP activity, which is used by ping. Consult with your system administrator about it.
In some cases increasing the Ping timeout value in the Options can help to pass the test.

5. Download Test
Download a small amount of content from any of the previously resolved Internet addresses. Test fails if no one site is reachable for download. It could mean that Internet connection is broken or the system has incorrect TCP/IP settings, which makes downloading impossible. For example, MTU value is too high for the network media.
In some cases increasing the Download timeout value in the Options can help to pass the test.
NOTE: This test is SKIPPED automatically if there are no resolved addresses (when DNS test failed).

6. Current MTU Discovery
Discover current MTU by ping test. This value is important to analyze the network state and for optimization.

7. Check for MTU inconsistency problem
SySpeed analyzes all gathered information in order to detect the presence of the MTU inconsistency problem. If the problem is detected, user is asked to fix it.

If some of the tests failed it is recommended to find out the reasons and to fix the problems. Please contact Technical Support if you need any assistance. Don’t forget to provide your explanation about what has happened. Thus, we will be able to understand your need and to reply shortly.
